KTM bike for sale in Championship Powersports, Wauseon, Ohio

About Championship Powersports

Championship Powersports did not begin with a business plan or a grand opening event.

Long before there was a dealership in Wauseon, there was a young kid fascinated by anything with a motor. An old pull start Rupp minibike with a lawnmower engine. The sound of clutch rattling. Fixing whatever needed attention just to get one more ride in before sunset. That is where the story really starts. Motorcycles were never just recreation. They were community. They were weekends. They were something you worked on all week so you could enjoy a few hours at the track with friends and family. As the years passed, racing naturally became part of life. Dirt bikes. Waiting for Cycle News to arrive in the mailbox. Spending weekends at the racetrack surrounded by families who shared the same passion. It was never only about trophies. It was about belonging.

In 2001 that lifelong passion turned into an opportunity.

Jim purchased a small motorcycle dealership in Wauseon. At the time it was a Honda store with a reputation that needed rebuilding and a lot of work ahead. Just months after taking over, the events of 911 shifted the economy. Being in a rural community made the challenge even greater. It would have been easy to second guess the decision. Instead, we leaned into what we understood best. Service, racing & relationships. At the same time, Jim’s son Greg was racing amateur motocross. Weekends were already spent at the track. So, we started bringing parts and tools. Helping other families. Fixing bikes late into the evening so riders could line up the next morning. That is when Championship truly began to take shape.

The racetrack became our second storefront. Families got to know us in the pits before they ever stepped into the showroom. We were not simply selling parts. We were right there alongside them. We understood what it meant when something broke midweek and needed to be ready before Friday night. That sense of urgency carried back into the dealership. With a background in service, building a strong service department came naturally. Retail sales was new territory, but credibility was not. When you do what you promise and stand behind your work, people notice. When you stay late to help someone make a race, they remember. Over time Championship Powersports became known as a racing dealership. We added KTM early on and continued to grow with the riders and families who supported us. What started as a small Honda shop evolved into something more meaningful. A place built around the riding community.

The culture here was not created from a manual. It developed through experience.

Loading trailers during the week.
Long weekends at the track.
Answering the phone when someone needed help.
Showing up consistently year after year.

We have been fortunate to work alongside an incredible group of employees who care about motorcycles and the people who ride them. Many have been with us for years. Customers do not just know the owner. They know the team. They build real relationships. They return because it feels familiar. On Saturdays you will still find riders stopping in just to talk. Coffee on the counter. Stories about last weekend’s race. Someone bringing in donuts. It is common for customers to stay and catch up before ever making a purchase. That is the kind of dealership we have always wanted to be. Over the years we have watched young racers grow up and walk back through our doors with their own children. We have seen families begin their riding journey all over again. Few things are more rewarding than seeing motorcycles connect generations the way they have connected ours.

When people ask what has made Championship successful, the answer is simple.

Treat people the way you want to be treated. One transaction at a time.

We have never focused on being the biggest.
We have never chased flash or trends.
We have focused on being consistent.

Consistent service.
Consistent follow through.
Consistent respect for every customer who walks through the door.

Twenty-five years have passed faster than we ever imagined. Thousands of motorcycles have found new homes. Countless race weekends have come and gone. What has never changed is the reason we do this.

We still love motorcycles.
We still value the people.
We still look forward to Saturdays.

Championship Powersports is more than a dealership to us. It has been woven into our family’s story. If you have ever stopped in, even once, you are part of that story as well.

Thank you for being part of it.
